Greet the office staff

When you first enter the office, you will be greeted by our friendly office staff. They are there to make sure things go smoothly. They schedule appointments and accept payments. They will let you know when your next appointment is and may converse with you while you wait.

Meet your hygienist/CDA

When we call you back for your appointment, you will meet your hygienist or CDA (Certified Dental Assistant). A hygienist is a trained dental professional that handles routine cleanings and oral care. They also assist the dentist in other procedures.

Before we do any work on your teeth, we will want to know about your medical history- especially if this is your first appointment with us. If it's not your first appointment, we'll want to know about any changes, such as new medications, arthritis, pregnancy, and any other new health conditions since the last visit. We will also need to know about any allergies, anxiety, or concerns you have so that we can avoid any potential issues. This way, we can give you the care you need.

It's important to note that dental anxiety is common, so don't try to hide it. Let us know so that we can have the opportunity to address it. You may feel better after we explain what we are going to do and if not, we can always provide you with medication to help you relax.

Cleaning

After your teeth are clean, the hygienist will use a metal probe and angled mirror to look at any problem areas in your mouth. We will also check for softening dentin and tooth enamel, as well as mouth sores, swelling, and redness.

Lastly, we'll check your periodontal pockets, which are the spaces between the top of your gumline and where the gum meets the tooth. Ideally, this should be 1 to 3 millimeters deep. If they are deeper, it could indicate the beginning of gum disease and we'll need to monitor you closely.

X-rays

Next, we'll do x-rays of your mouth which can help the dentist see if there are any underlying issues. X-rays not only show the visible areas of your teeth, but also the roots and your jawbone. The dentist will be able to see exactly what is going on and provide you with the care you need.

Exam

Finally, the dentist will do an exam. They use the x-rays to see if there are any issues such as bone loss, fracture, or abnormalities below the gum line. Once this is done, they'll determine if you have jaw alignment issues or bruxism- and finally, check for signs of oral cancer.

Schedule Your Follow-Up

The final step in a dental checkup is to schedule your next appointment. Typically, we recommend that you come in every 6 months. By scheduling the next checkup before you leave the office, you don't have to worry about forgetting about it.

  • ‘‘Dr. Campbell and his staff create a warm, welcoming environment while providing honest, quality care! I have been to so many dentists in the past who have made me feel anxious or have tried to “upsell” me on treatments I haven’t needed. Dr. Campbell is the exact opposite of that! If you want a dentist that is patient, friendly, thorough, and values integrity, I highly recommend this office!’’

  • ‘‘Great friendly and very knowledgeable staff. Always making sure you don't have any questions and are satisfied. Only dental office I know with automatic financing. Just all around great office!’’
